Cheers Mike
Rich it shouldn't matter now as I got a free 2nd master cylinder from my nearest landy place who I know fairly well. I know it works as I took it off myself this morning! Will stick it on tonight

Dont worry about the pipe for now- just dont lose it!

Just thought I'd stick a picture of the "cheap" mufflers from real steel up- they were £22.40 (or similar) each, 2 1/2" in and out, and they are actually pretty thick gauge steel so very happy- they also make the car a lot quieter
Got the X pipe, with one of these on each side right before the rear bumper, and I just popped a 3" stainless tail pipe on each one to finish them off. Exhaust done, clutch with hopefully be done when I pop the modified clevis link on later, modified the rad for proper fan mounts too which will go back on, if all good then the front bumper is going on and it's going for an MOT

Those are the ones I used a while back Tom. They last really well. The actual ones were turbo mufflers but they look indentical.
And I paid about £20 a few years back so the price is still keen

Tom,
Looking really good, has the grin from the first fire up worn off yet? I promise it goes away eventually, that the time to change the pulleys!
Good luck with the MOT,
Alan

Fe feck sake
Has run perfectly since first fired, if in need of a wee bit of tweeking. Today, got the MOTey bits finished, went to fire her up, ran but no idle then backfired, playing didn't cure this and turned out the timing was well out??? Dissy must have got knocked whilst tweeking other stuff, so sorted the timing and fired up again much nicer, THEN the carb decides to vomit petrol everywhere! Closed doors drove away.
The fuel pressure gauge (brand new glycerin filled Mr Gasket one) read just over 1psi whereas it has always been about 5-6psi before, adjusted the holley regulator with no change? Fuel was bubbling out of the 2 squareish holes either side of the metering rod tubes, gauge still reading 1psi.
NEED HELP!!!

Hi Tom
following the back fire check the power valve (it is a holly carb?) to see if that is still funtioning.
check the floats haven't collapsed when it back fired (can blow them in half I believe)
Sounds like your float needles are stuck open, hence no Back pressure and flooding, not sure why but could be as simple as crud on the seats of the needle valves.
Best regards
Mike

Tom.
I'd vote for collapsed floats as well, caused by the backfire.

Me too!!
I think if the power valve diaphragm gets blown out it just pours petrol into the engine from the progression slot because it wont hold shut with vac (I only know cos of Mikes book)
I had the float on my new Holley fail about 6 weeks after buying it. It was a brass float. I've changed them both to plastic now
Keep at it Tommo!
It wont be long now mate.
