4.4 litres is the size of the P76 engine, a rover 3.5 v8 derivitive interesting lump if it is one of those, also the crank could be fitted to the normal 3.5 block with low deck height pistons and short rods. However I think it would be unlikley, the engine was only sold into the Australian and south african markets, but interesting if it is one!
As far as rusty water out the exhaust, just means the inside of your exhaust pipe is rusty if it was a badly blown head gasket you would be getting clouds of white smoke not water!
As for the brown sludgy water in your radiator, that is why I said you should back flush your Rad and change the coolent if it had been standing with so little use.
