So is the Weber a re-worked version of the Edelbrock, which in itself is a replica of the Carter, or direct re-work of the Carter?

Weber and Edelbrock 4-barrels are identical, just badged differently to suit different markets. The carb is derived from one of the Carters, can't remember which one.
