Thanx for your fast reply..
Well, for now, I dont intend to do any thing, to increase power-output from the engine...so do I have to worry about the heads/oilpump ect?..

Any easy way to identify, if any newer parts have been fitted?..
Or can I post pics, so any of you guys, can Identify?..

For oil pump/front cover if it has points on a standard dizzy then its probably original if its a rover electronic dizzy then it will have been changed. You can post a pic of down by where the oil filter goes and we will be able to tell you for sure.

Hi, my engine appears to be an early P6
The Engine No is S452xxxx1D marked as 9.5:1 CR its got a rope front oil seal and P6 cast headers. It currently has a factory reconditioned 4 speed box (Part 594236R which has never been used since rebuild) and twin 13/4 SUs.
The Block is marked up as 613796 C - C2562
Any ideas on what the S suffix means as like others I cant find any reference to it? Is the 452 just a continuation from the 451 numbering system? or a different engine?
Thanks
Spud

Hi Gents,
Can anybody help me with identifying the origin of my engine.
I bought the engine without the vehicle (to rebuild to go in a Lotus 7 replica) and the guy I bought it from had no idea what it was out of. I've searched numerous sites on the net and all the links in this thread, but the only engines I can find starting '34......' were 9.35:1 CR engines for the Swiss market. My enigne has 8.13:1 CR stamped on the block and is a 3.5 EFI engine.
TIA,
Martin.

what is the rest of the number as there is a 34 which is RR carb 70-83 just because it has efi doesn't mean it has always had it and at that age it could easy have been rebuilt with normal comp pistons.

Great, thanks Marki.
Does the 'F' suffix have any particular significance?
Thanks again,
Martin.

It will mean something but no idea what. With an engine that old its irrelevant anyway as all the engine parts fit each other and as you already know now your engine has been modified already so could be anything now. Instead of a low comp slogger that it was it could be a high comp monster now. Only way to tell for sure what you have is to strip and do some measurements.

engine number confusion

i seem to have the same problem as the chap in the previous few posts,
i recently bought what i was told was a 3.5 from a range rover, the engine is stamped CR8 13.1 34134961F cant seem to find this number listed anywhere and the F suffix seems to be unusual. any light you can throw on it would be great! now just need to decide what gearbox to go for ................!

same as above and its CR 8.13 which is the compression ratio, its a low compression engine. The F could mean its military or something which could be why it has the extra low compression even to the normal low compression.

8.13 sounds like the CR my MGB V8 left the factory with!
