Fit turbo and just tell the wife that it's air con to make her more comfortable when she is in the car. You're just thinking of her.......
My wife's a petrolhead, and almost an engineer (software, so maybe it doesn't really count ;) ) She'd notice, and then she'd utilise my intestines as hoisiery accessories.
Ahhh. I see the problem there now

Hello Dave

I'd turn my broddling attentions to the lower inlet manifold as they are typically badly matched to the heads so some port matching would help here.

Also I used to run 10.25:1 CR in my old Emerald equipped wedge and that was running 32° spark flat out. This was on 98RON and ran like that for 30K until I sold it, as far as I know the car is still running OK.

Bear in mind that most of the maximum spark figures quoted for the rover are using the original dizzy which suffers (like all distributors) from poor accuracy at high rev's so a setting of 32° on a dizzy will be swinging from 29-35° at 6K.

Consequently with modern coils and ECU you can push things a bit, put a few degrees in and take it for a spin.

You can make a surprisingly good det 'can' from some plastic tubing onto a head stud and the other end into a stethoscope.

Sorry I didn't see your post for a couple of days. I have been meaning to get in touch over a couple of things...

I have looked at the lower manifold, and it isn't bad. (But it could be better - I got more than a little fed up with aluminium dust!)

When I had the car on Joo's rollers a couple of years ago I pulled out a load of timing due to det (discovered using the hosepipe, flattened copper tube and ear defender method - I used to tune Impreza turbos where det is more dangerous. )

I am now wondering if this was primarily caused by high intake temperature, so I pulled out the timing in the "wrong way" - maybe I should have adjusted the temperature compensation map and not the ignition table? Or maybe my engine simply isn't as tolerant to timing as yours?

The snag with doing things on the road on the Isle of Wight is that it's damned hard to get to anything like full load at high RPM!!

Hello Dave

Hopefully you'll see this .

The trouble with setting ignition timing on the rollers is that everthing tends to get very hot as even with the dyno fnas etc its still not like running down the open road especially with TVR's as the plakky body keeps everything very toasty indeed.

I don't know how hot your inlet temps are with your splended intake system but it may be worth skimming 1mm of each mounting face on the inlet manifold and fitting a tufnol gasket / plate to isolate the lower manifold form the heads.

Also wrapping the exhausts or getting them ceramic coated will certainly help drop underbonnet temps. on my wedge with wrapped exhausts and bonnet vents this dropped inlet temps by 8° measured inside the plenum

Get the temp down and you can then get more spark in as I'm sure you know

I'm supprised your wife isnt wanting to get the turbo in herself is shes a petrolhead! When will they invent a woman who likes building V8s and always wants more power in the car?

My missus used to think a V8 was a type of car! hahahahaha

Haha brilliant! Well my missus did buy me some deoderant that was called V8 (Sure brand I think). That was nice!

Unfortunately it didnt smell off grease, petrol and burnt oil...
