The factory MGB V8 inlet manifold will take a pair of HIF6's and give you the clearance you need. But this puts the carbs at the back of the engine over the heater valve connection. And they are quite rare!!
I recently sold a manifold to take a single Weber twin choke for many many pounds!!

Thanks Perry, the MGB manifold sounds a good option and even if it's a bit pricey must be cheaper than the webber/offy otpion!? Russell

The original MGBV8 set up is available but would cost a small fortune, I think Clive Wheatley sells them.
Did you try Burlen, a pair of lower dash pots has to be a lot cheaper.

I tried Burlen this morning, but they said they don't have the parts to help which I was a little surprised about.
Hopefully TCs attempts to take the top down on the SU carbs he has will do the trick, in the meantime I'll see if I can another source for Dolomite Sprint carb parts.

I seem to remember a webber 45/48 adaptor for a MGB which bolted onto a Holley manifold and faced the carb backwards towards the bulkhead, Think it was a race series mod so a more tunable/less restrictive carb could be used, but still was still classified as having a pair of carbs

Ian,
That I believe was the costello conversion manifold that Perry referred to and probably very hard to find these days.
Another cheaper solution I have seen done is to have a pair of manifold adaptors made which bolt onto the standard rover pent roof manifold and curve back to place the SU's in a similar position to the factory MGBV8.
The cheapest solution has got to be, modifying the SU dashpots or if performance is not an issue swap in a pair of rebuilt Strombergs which I believe Stags had as standard fitment.

Indeed they were, as were later SD1 V8's, so you could cource a pair of those and they would be correct for the engine. (Personally I prefer SU's myself.)

Harvey,
I have 3 sets of the low dashpots for the 1.75 SU carbs.
If you want to drop me a PM , I may be able to help.
Regards
Jim

It wasn't for me.
I'm sure the original poster (russ spake) will be in touch with you.
Thanks.
