In both cases, it is my understanding that a new coil would be required as the original one fitted to the P6B is not suitable.
Ron.
That's right, and wouldn't be a problem. The only possible issue as far as I can see is whether the tacho would work OK. Still looking into this.

Be wary of the oil pump upgrade kit mate.
They work, but they can put a lot of stress on the dissy drive cog and the cam cog.
Email me for more history which will be boring to read on here.

PS
I believe you can get an adpator / extension piece to convert the shorter dissy drive to mate up with the early shorter oil pump shaft. I've just fitted one to a mates MGB conversion to extend his mallory dissy to match up. I'm sure this may well fit the dissy you have as well.

Thanks for all the replies chaps.
Original plan was to get it all back together on points and then fit Pertronix/Aldon. (Probably prefer these over the Lumenition as it all fits inside the cap with no separate module). So I went for the uprated oil pump kit with original slotted gear shaft.
But I reckon now the vac diaphragm is probably perished. My lungs are not in their prime

, but sucking on the pipe pulls some air & doesn't move the baseplate.
So I thought maybe something like
this?
I could convert the new uprated gear to the later type:
(P6 gear v SD1)
and fit a new coil and 12V feed. Got a feeling the tacho would need converting as well though.
Or get a working 35D8...
Hmmm...

Many thanks for your email Perry...good stuff in there. You've got one back.
=============
Back to original plan for now I reckon. Replacement vac on the way from Distributor Doctor - very helpful he is too.
Pertronix to follow once the engine's up and running (wallet permitting!

). Carl at Retrorockets retrorockets@snet.net & Marvin on Technical at Pertronix marving@pertronix.com gave me all the info I needed regarding ballast resistor, coil & tacho.
Thanks again all,
Stan
