Cant think of anything worse than smokey hair-encrusted DEVCON lol.

Eliot, I don't think we'll need 3lb of the stuff so I'll have a look on the 'net tom at work and let you know if I can find a smaller amount, like a tube or something!

Can you still buy ethanol over the counter at chemists? (Or was that back in the 18th century?! )

Too late for you now you've gone this route, but I started with a whole new block of metal and got it machined. (That was six months ago and it's still at the machine shop though )

Making my own twin plenum set up to go under the MGB bonnet.

I had considered that, but I'm using a 40 year old milling machine and doing all by hand.

It's pricey because I only bought one unit - they usually sell in multiples of ten  then its only £27 plus VAT. I looked at four UK suppliers and that was the cheapest single unit price, 500g should be enough (I hope!).

Would probably have been cheaper to get a welder to fill it with alloy then?

I really only see the point of milling as being able to rough the shape out and then finish by hand with burrs. Once your mindset grasps that a circular cut has no real advantages in the casting you are working with apart from quantity production the milling part becomes even less attractive IMHO. Much is dictated by how you go down into the manifold runners, I'd do those first and the TB last (to match) personally ;)

Lol probably would have been cheaper but a bit of a fiddle. Don't know how far down the runners it'll go, to be honest any amount of flaring is good but don;t want to over do it just for the sake of it.

I'm getting a custom plenum made with a front-facing TB, which is already 80mm so no need to fiddle with that 8)

That reminds me need to get the drawings sorted for Rossco this wk! I always forget

New pipework arrived today, and I've ordered some of those fancy German (?) type screw clamps rather than Jubilees, not much price difference really but a hell of a performance benefit!

No way you could you fill those holes up with weld - you wouldn't be able to get the torch in there (I can weld ally and had considered it).
The base has to be machined out from 37mm to 44mm - that has to be done on a milling machine. The flaring tool I made myself for my blended trumpet base - first time I've used it on ally - it seemed to work ok.
