Something like this would do the job and save messing around with the tank.

That would work and I actually looked at this route before going the ali swirl pot route.

Don't forget that when you go for EFI most ecu units turn the pump on for a few seconds only and it then stops when the engine no longer runs - stops fuel pouring out if it springs a major leak - this system should then be used to stop both pumps.

There is no need for a restriction on the return to the tank from swirl as you want to keep the flow through the swirl and remove the "warm fuel" from the swirl back to tank.(Fuel passing though the HP pump and fuel rail picks up heat and this needs to be sent back to the large volume of the fuel tank to "blend" it together)

On a swirl pot there are 4 connections
Bottom one - to HP pump
Next up is inlet from LP Pump
Next up return from fuel rail
Top is return to tank (To clear any air)
