If your name is Elliot you blow it up by putting too much power through it

Never tried, but going on what i have read, Its an issue. Ideally they want to do the run with a 1:1 ratio, which is typically 3rd on a GM box.
The problem is when you floor it, it will change back down to 2nd. So only thing i can think of, is to do the run on mine with it held in 2nd. I cant remember how fast mine goes in 2nd - i think about 75mph.
If i ever get my 4l80e installed, because its electronic - i can hold it in any gear regardless of anything - known as dyno mode. But that project is on the back burner at the moment, because my 700r4 is holding up to the abuse.

Mine is a 3 speed auto with a shifter kit. So I can select 1st 2nd or 3rd in manual mode and it wont upshift or kickdown.
Dont know what gear he was in last year when he did mine the first time.
I think it must have been 2nd. I suppose if you did it in 3rd you could disconnect the kickdown cable and vac modulator.

That's not a bad idea, shoud work with the ZF too. I think 3rd is 1:1 (although of course I would need to account for the transfer box too). In fact 4th would be better as there's a torque converter lockup.
Chris.

On a TH350/400 the Vac modulator only controls line pressure and hence shift firmness. Removing the kickdown still wouldn't stop it changing down if it felt it needed to.
Besides mines a 700r4 and doesn't have either of those devices. I'm still up for having a try none the less.

If I disconnect the modulator and kickdown cable on mine it will not kickdown at all. But my car is very light I suppose @ 1050kg all up with me and a tank full.
I had to fit the uprated TH350 adjustable modualtor to mine just to get it to upshift later in auto. Even now it upshifts way too early for quick fun so I shift it via the ratchet for road fun.
