Not sure about dividing it up into sub sections for Rover, Ford Chev etc,
Not for access reasons but for future member reasons, someone may be looking for some chev info and there may be only a little bit, but all the relevent info is perhaps sitting in the rover section, as there info is not in the chev bit, they wont look elsewhere on the forum cos its not chev related or join the forum for that reason,

why would relevant chev info be in the rover section? If there is anything which is relevant to both then it would be in both sections I would imagine. If it was general like how to set timing then it would be in a general section with links to specific engines for say firing order. Thats the way I see it anyway especially if a wiki type thing is done as its so easy to cross ref stuff like that.

Separate sections for Rover, Chev etc probably a good idea, but no need to repeat information in all areas - why not have a 'general' or 'common' area with stuff that applies to all engines? For example - how to prepare an engine for long term storage..

I can think of a few topics for the wiki:
- Can I fit a 3.5 timing cover on a 4.6 block
- How do I fit EFi to a carb engine
- How do I wire up the various distributors / ignition amps
- What oil should I use
- How do I prime the oil pump
- What exhaust manifolds are there
- What timing covers are there
- How do you check lifter preload
- What transmissions fit the RV8
There's definitely a few threads that come up often.....

All sounds a great idea.
How about a Tech Tips section to help first time builders, from making the easily done and potentially costly silly mistake.

Tech section is a great idea.
Im sure Ive asked questions that have come up before, and as has been said there are always a few general ones that always crop up.
Dont know what wiki is though

Should have explained myself better
what I meant was a section of short what not to do's such as if you intend to re-use a camshaft then keep the lifters in the order they came out, to help first timers not to make silly mistakes. How about you experienced guys suggesting a top ten not to's.
I think the idea of have a tech library if you like, would be extremely helpful and avoid repetition of questions that may recently been answered.
I personally can only say I find this forum extremely helpful, and the people who are regular contributors are a great bunch of guys.

Yes I looked at various packages and broke my server a couple of times as well so know what not to use lol. It basically comes down to there are no add-ons or mods for PHPBB so whatever was used would be completely separate as things stand at the mo. two choices really, go that route or change forum software that does wiki. I don't know what PHPBB ver 3 has in it so I will have a look at that but I suspect its fairly similar to what we have just now.
Will catch up with you on msn and have a natter about it M8.
Oh just remembered why I missed the post, I was upside down drunk in Dublin at the time
