He isn't asking about a RV8 though ?
It's a twin spark 8cyl engine. So that might be 4x4 cyl EDI Sor 2 x 8 cyl.
8 twin output coil near plug might be the neatest as far as HT leads go
Or is there a desire to retain an original look ?

I've actually been thinking about trying another option called Nodiz (
http://www.nodiz.co.uk/) which has been talked about on other forums. The guy over there who created it reckons it
should be able to drive 2 coil packs in parallel. I really like the look of the system as it is dead simple, no EDIS required, and there are loads of add-on features if required.
I'd rather stay away from COP as I think it will look a bit crap on this lump.

Sorry - was forgetting it wasn't an RV8. But does the same apply as regards COP? Ie, are the plugs close to the exhaust?

In many ways you have lots of options.
I assume your existing setup is 2 coils, 2 dizzys ?
You could retain this, but with ecu control. The dizzy will only distribute sparks via the rotor arm and cap.
Would need the trigger wheel, ecu, and new coils just.
This would keep the look original
MJ and lots of EDIS modules and lots of HT leads.
Nodiz is another option, with slightly more coil options.
If Nodiz or the ecu can fire coils with built in amps, then 100% very easily you can run as many coils as you want off each and every trigger.
Older inductive ( usually 2 wire )...I'm sceptical about being able to fire 2 coils off a single ecu output.
Although if you can trigger an external amp off the ecu, this opens you up easily to more coils.
But 8 x twin tower coils would be designed to fire the 2 coils with a single hit, and should be fairly neat too.
One way or another, there are a good few options though

Morning, Stevie it is a single dissy:
Dave the heat would not be a problem, but want leads. I'd love to keep the dissy as it looks awesome, but I do not have a drive gear for it, and I don't trust it to give a good spark. Rotor arms are nigh on impossible to find as the one in it is past it. I'd rig it up as a dummy but not sure how I would make it look convincing!
Nodiz should be able to fire 2 coils, which would make it real easy, of course with modern spark plugs and new coils, I probably wouldn't even need both plugs to work, but it would be good, especially with the rich mixture and boost..!!

Eliminating the rotor arm and dizzy cap are only two of the reasons to get rid of the dizzy.
There are other twin spark recent engines around - didn't Alfa make one? So there will be ways of having two plugs per cylinder with aftermarket units. But with wasted spark - ie no cam position sensor - you'd be into firing 4 plugs at once. Do the two plugs per cylinder fire at the same time?
The BIP 373 coil driver that MS (and maybe others) uses is a Bosch component which is more than just a transistor or FET - it includes overload protection etc and is near bomb proof if mounted on the correct heatsink. Two can be driven from one logic level signal if needed - but it's possible one could drive two coils. That's the sort of question you'd get an answer to on the MS forum.

It must be reasonably easy to make up a small board to signal 2 coil packs instead of one, at the moment I'm really leaning towards Nodiz because it looks so simple to use and tidy install.
It would be nice to figure out a way of making the dissy look like it is being used, but HT leads are very obvious so not easy to hide, unless I run them in some sort of ducting...

That's one hell of a distributor !!!!
Ive tried in the past to fire two inductive coils off a single output., but never got it to work. Either one coil fired or the other, never both.
Why ? Ive no idea.
Pairing triggers at the logic level with one ignitor per coil...100% this works.
Or you can wire the paired coils in series, and they will both fire together, albeit at the expense of some firing voltage.
As to how you could ever make a direct fire setup look like it is using that dizzy...really can see how you'd ever achieve it. Any coil packs you use will physically take up a lot of space just due to the number required.
On most twin spark engines yes they do fire at the same time as far as I am aware ( not including rotaries here )

I asked on the MS forum about this and got a reply from Matt Cramer who is one of the MS developers:-
"One MS2, modified for logic level output, and a pair of QuadSparks with wasted spark coil packs could do this"
EDIS four cylinder coil packs are fairly cheap in the UK (you'd need 4) so I'd say you could do the whole job for about £400 by buying a used MS2. It might be possible to do the same using a MegaJolt - but MS is the most free with information on mods, etc, and it's the one I know most about.

Thanks for going to the trouble Dave, much appreciated. I know this is a viable option now and MS is pretty common, so once I get the engine together and gearbox mounted I'll be back on this.
Cheers,
