Yep!!
Simple as that
And with a mate nearby who has a precision grinder, the selection of shims I have can be altered however I want ?
BUT!
That will not be required now. Kiwi came round today and we hauled the rear axle out of the MGB and fitted the spool into my actual diff case with the shims I have already machined and it dropped in perfectly. With the bearing caps fitted the spool has no sideways play and can be turned with a feather light touch

We took some measurements and the 6mm I was expecting to have to remove to get the crown wheel where it should was actually 7.9mm. So not far off on my original measurements with a tape measure
So it will be 3mm off the crown wheel and 5mm off the spool flange, then my mate can get busy with re drilling the spool flange to take the crown wheel bolts.
This is all getting quite exciting now !
The drive shafts are now on their way via UPS so I'm hoping to see them by the end of next week? Fingers crossed

You can buy shim packs for very little money, and there are loads of them.
8.8 lash is set the same way, I've hundreds of the shims here. If you buy a bearing/rebuild kit, they include the shims. At least I think that's how I ended up with so many !

Stevie, could you provide OD / ID dimensions for the 8.8 diff carrier shims ?
I need to look into my rear axle due to clonking noise and I suspect I need to fix something

My axle is SD1 / TR7 type and the shims are mostly NLA.

If its clonking it may just need a service kit for the pinion gears due to wear. Its like the MG diff which has shims on the small gears to take up wear on the cogs. I think I have a set of brand new Ford 8.8 diff gears in the garage if you are interested ?

I have a narrowed TR7 rear axle with Quaife ATB so unfortunately it´s not the small diff gears. I hope it´s just the collapsible spacer, not the ATB or the shortened halfshafts.

Old MG is 25 spline and the new shafts are Ford 9" 31 spline in 4140 forged steel. Apparently these are 10% stronger than the normal 1514H steel that these shafts are made with for most applications. ??
I gave my shaft dimensions to the guy in the USA and he says that the new shafts will be approx 89% stronger than the Moser shafts with the smaller diameter ?

25's just look so tiny.
I'm sure even the base material in 31 would be fine.
I did twist the splines a little on my Moser 31's, but when that happened I was around 1700kgs race weight. So a lot heavier than you I'd imagine
The Mark Williams in 31 have been perfect so far. That said, havent been to a proper drag strip for several years now.

1300kg?! That's a hefty 'B. You're not that big are you Perry??
Where does all the extra weight come from? The supercharger isn't that heavy ...?
