Find someone competent at tuning and they should be able to tell quite easily if things are going smoothly, or if there is a suspect mechanical or other problem.

But more than likely it is just tuning....and even you're admitting the tuning is all over the place.

That's the issue I've had to be honest is finding someone who knows rober v8s and also megasquirt. If anyone knows someone in the north west I'd be happy to pay if it solves the problem :)

There should be plenty of guys on this forum who are lovers of Megasquirt who could help.

But really, an engine is an engine and the RV8 is pretty basic, so shouldnt pose too many problems to anyone with any real tuning experience.

The snag (if it is one) is that MS is a DIY system - but the beauty is that there is everything you could wish for in the way of support out there. It's not difficult to learn how to tune it - just a bit time consuming. And if you don't want to learn yourself, the only option is to find someone who does know it. But this may mean travelling - the chap Phil gave you is a good example. However, I'd say it would be better to take the time to go to someone who really does know them inside out than spend money at a local place who doesn't.

Well I've been today to the garage, timing was spot on with what the megatune was saying, which I thought it was but best to check.

I think next were going to check the cam timing, I used real steels cloyes set, which allows 3 different positions, I'm pretty sure I got it right but best to check.

Thanks again guys for your help :D

Flat spots are usually down to wrong mixture - lean?

Fitting the cam on the wrong keyway wont give you the problem you are experiencing. Its only 2 degree's either side of stock anyway. And a worn chain on a standard Rover setup can give up to 10 degree's of slap each way when badly worn. So dont waste your time by pulling the front off to check as even if it is fitted either side of the stock cam timing key it will run just fine if the dots on the cogs were lined up right to start with for stock cam timing or +/- 2 degree's.

As said before, can easily be too much fuel or too little.

It will not be cam timing, that's for sure.

:whs :whs

Its fuel and possibly ign timing and there could also be an air leak in there as well ?

If you are using Nige's starter map its probably down to AE tuning. I had a flat spot, as did others, inlcuding Mr Noisy in his thread here:

http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showt ... 4&p=683110

No big deal though, just set your desired AFR targets, go for a drive and dial in the VE table with VEAL and your WB, then when that is done look into the AE settings.

Bear in mind that AE settings are based on VE so if you do it before you tune the VE table, your working AE settings will get screwed up.

Bailey Performance in Telford are excellent and are very well versed in RV8 on Megasquirt. http://baileyperformance.co.uk/ Give Dale a call and see what he says.

What, where you suggested the ae was out? I still think he should get the ve table correct before playing with the ae settings. JMHO

Feel free to send me some datalogs with the current msq file and I will take a look to get it running better, but I would give Shaun a shout on 07891512664 He lives in Lincolshire and used to work for V8D now he tunes MS ECUs full time. He will travel as well, so no worries there.
www.ms2tuning.com

Once its done please post your a screen shot of your original VE table and the VE table it ends with, this will show the difference between the so called runnable base map and what it actually needed to run it.
They ALL need tuning and you should never run on a base map without tuning it!
