Most people want to get in their car and drive them, not sit on the side of the road tweaking them all the time but then the system is meant to be for education purpose only hence the disclaimer on Phils site

Jimbob, have you spoken to Mark. Not sure how up to date this page is but it has his number

I agree with this. I do not get much time with my car as it is so I want to spend my spare time driving it and not tinkering. I don't know much about MS but owners that I know that have this system fitted seem to be forever reconfiguring it. I am sure for some this is great and part of the ownership experience but not for me.

I highly recommend Mark Adams. Here is a post from my blog for some work he recently completed for me on my Griff

Well, yes. But that's hardly the same as buying a Tornado ECU and fitting it yourself.

Those who are constantly playing with their MS have likely not spent the considerable sum to have it set up properly on a rolling road by an expert.

Feeling compelled to add my bit that Dave knows well.

I cannot agree more that whilst some will love to get to grips with all the ins and outs of EFI, all I wanted was a unit that I fitted and works and let others do a final tune. Having bought a package from a well known supplier, I ended up with three months of hell in trying to get the engine started.

In the end it was settings but thanks Dave for support and a couple of others on MS forum, but from other quarters ....

In short, in my view if you go down the MS route you are on your own. I'm sure it's one of the best for ease of tune but the manuals are terrible unless you know all about the technical aspects first.

I could go on but at least the engine now fires.

Think what most have said in this thread sums up my views. You either read up about about EFI and MS and DIY - or pay someone else to do it for you.
Same applies to a Mark Adams ECU - there's no way it will be supplied exactly right for your particular engine. For best results it will require tuning on the actual vehicle.
If you have a bog standard engine, there's not that much wrong with the standard injection - provided it is working properly. Which is a big 'if' given the age of the bits.

Problem is that you are leaving horsepower on the table by not being able to map the ignition.
Plus the amount of slop you get in the ignition timing, through the timing chain, dizzy drive and worn dizzy shaft is unbelieveable.

I've not touched my megasquirt for years (since i fitted the turbos) and its been nothing but reliable. I couldnt even tell you if its still a MS1 or if I even bothered to upgrade it to MS2.
