Hi Dave,

I got it from "Roadcraft" in Lancing. Tel 01903 522900.

The part number for the one I got was EDEL9265 but I cocked up a bit as it has one large square hole in the middle. I decided to use it even though I'm using dual plane manifold that has the splitter in the middle. The reason being that I'd read that it is fact possible to grind down the splitter so that all the cylinders can breath from all the chokes but at the cost of some bottom end BHP. Anyway I doubt that it has made much difference to the top end or bottom end!

It cost £9.31 and then they charged me 8.45 for post!

I think that you can get one that has four holes for the four chokes.

Be careful when removing it from the vaccum wrapped packaging as you can end up ripping off a layer of the insulator!

It worked very well, the carb is much cooler after a run.

Edit....Just measured it, its 8mm thick and I use one gasket between it and the carb. I used a bit of "silly bodge sealant" between it and the manifold

Sod that. I would rather make my own than get ripped off. :shock:
I have put a few feelers out for a better price.

It does seem like a bit of a rip for a piece of cardboard type stuff.

You could just buy about 10 gaskets and maybe stick them togther with silicone sealant, you have to get the longer studs from somewhere but you could then make it any thickness that you liked.

Contacted Real Steel and have bought a Mr Gasket Heat Dissipator Plate Kit + Longer Stud Kit. Total £17 + P&P.
The kit consists of two 1/4" ally plates and 3 gaskets. If I can't shut the bonnet with both plates I can remove one. :lol:
This sounds the best option to me. :D

Heat dissipator? I thought alloy conducted heat rather well, which tends to defeat the purpose of fitting a spacer to cool the carb?

I reckon the 10 gaskets stacked together would do a better job :lol:

The blurb I read was that not just insulating the carb from the manifold, the ally plates radiate the manifold heat out into the air flow. The gaskets stop heat transfer from the heated up plates into the carb. :shock:
The plates have a larger footprint than the gaskets so act like fins, as per the fins around the cylinders on bikes and on sumps. :shock:
It sounds OK to me :oops:
I have just received the kit and the total thickness of plates and gaskets is only 8 mm, so I hope to be able to close the bonnet after all. :twisted:

That's probably not as daft as it sounds! Did it work?

I bet you could get away without gaskets too, since it's quite soft and would compress a bit.

Now that sounds like a fairly sensible idea. It would even shield the carb from radiated heat from the manifold too. :idea:

You could even do it with a sheet of 1/16" ally, maybe 10" square, a couple of gaskets, another sheet of ally etc.

Spot on.
Use the gaskets as a template to cut out the central holes and you have a bargain cooling system.
Does anyone have the address of the Patents Office. 8)
