There are some more pics in the Real Steel catalogue now, quite large and hi res so you can zoom in for a proper gander.
A few more details too, and the all important price.

It's MUCH better to have a bigger inlet valve at the expense of the exhaust valve size. If you have a well designed exhaust you have a huge pressure difference across the valve, so it flows well regardless. You don't get a good pressure difference across the inlet unless you have some form of forced induction.

Hi there,
So what I see is, that they get a max of 353 lb/ft with a 4999cm³ engine.
That´s 480 NM.
Translated this to a 4554 ccm engine, it is 321 lb/ft. That´s 437 NM.
The standard "Thor" injected RR II engune gave 407 NM @ 2.600 rpm.
That´s an increase of 7,37 %.
Is that worth that money?
Is this not obtainable with goord worked standard heads?

if you do the same maths on HP you get a very different figure than 7.3% tho. Yes you could get those figures from worked factory heads but it would cost the same or more money and the rover heads would then be pretty much maxed out where these are as cast so presumably have a bit left in them.

With worked standard castigns you can only seem to have top or bottom end, no in between, you can with the rs heads, they make good power all the way accross the rev range and in regards to cost they outperform and equivalently priced rover head and they are brand new and potential for more. The test engine that graph was for was a very rushed job engine so they simply had a figure for the kit car show they had a stand at, there is scope for more power. The cam was supposed to be quite mild too.

Would these heads be suitable for a 3.5, with Crower 50232, roller rockers, full balancing and alloy flywheel? Or am I the only one still playing with a P6 motor?

They're not availbe for 3.5's according to real steel although it says in the paperwprk i got with them that they will be making a 3.5 version.

Apart from not having the outer row of headbolts which are better left out anyway,there shouldnt be any reason they wont fit a 3.5,or a buick or oldsmobile for that matter.

They'll physically bolt on to a 3.5 but they've said they're not suitable for some reason.

The chambers probably dont fit inside a 3.5 head gasket. :(

Nope your not alone :wink: I want those heads to for our superchaged 3.5. I'll ask RS within two weeks about the 3.5 versions and what exactly the problems will be with the existing ones on a 3.5 ( Ill guess flow)

I'm guessing that the "F85" is some sort of homage to the Oldsmobile F85?
One thing I've seen pointed out on the Pistonheads website, the exhaust ports on the Merlins are higher than a standard Rover head, similar to Buick 300 heads, meaning standard exhaust manifolds or headers won't fit. That's not a criticism though, raising the ports is a good idea and if it produces better flow, I say good on 'em.

Still, either Real Steel are cunningly ratcheting up the tension and building excitement in the biggest advertising campaign since the Segway, or their sales department only works part-time. RS - we want lots of numbers and pretty pictures please!
