Dave. Good point but no. Phil in his circuits does but I have .....

One fused relay circuit for the fuel pump and one fused relay circuit for the injectors – both relays are triggered by dualling relay pins 85 to ECU Pin 37 (fuel pump on ground). My separate fused supply goes via relay pins 30/87 respectively. ECU pins 32/33 and 34/35 ground the two injector banks.

The coil packs are fed from a separate fused ignition-on circuit and not through any relay.

Thanks.

If you click on my website under my signature there are links on there to contact me, feel free to e=mail me the msq you're using and I'll take a look to double check there's nothing too wrong.

I'm sure it's not my map as I'm using Phil's MSQ file but made a note on above..

I'm now thinking it is the 12v side - I'm checking wiring at the moment.
i too used Phils map after i fitted the MS into my car, and it fired first time but miss fired,
i had the wiring wrong on the coil packs,
so had 4 cylinders firing in the wrong order, would idle very rough then miss fire and pop when revved,

once this was sorted we checked the timing and the tooth was not 100% spot on, once we adjusted this in MTune it fired up every time from cold or hot before we did any tweaking to Phils msq.

If it helps, looking at the coil connector with a Ford pack, the outside terminal refers to the coil pair on its side. The centre terminal being common 12v.

That's helpful and I think I'm OK but will check yet again tomorrow. Appreciate everyone's' help on this.

What should be the Engine Type setting (in TunerStudio Engine Constants pop-up) please? Even Fire / Odd Fire - it’s set to Even Fire at the moment.

Thanks.

EVEN fire is correct for an RV8.

Thanks a lot. Having checked everything out and still no joy, I've sent the ECU back for checking. Once I get that stable, I'll try again. At least injectors are definitely working well.

Still no joy and something strange is happening.

Is there any MS expert near to Horsham, West Sussex, that may be able to come to check my ECU out? As an alternative, I could bring my ECU to you to see if it works on a working engine as that would at least eliminate something.

Have you got a stim? That simulates an engine (spark, sensors etc) and is invaluable for testing. Allows you to check everything works on the bench.

Although it's actually quite rare for the MS itself to give problems - far more likely an external wiring or software issue.

Not being funny but you haven't got one good and one bad coil pack have you?

Hi
I know these are basics, but mistake I made! do you have resistive plugs and leads? I didand the resulting spark is pathetic  ! do you have a plug in the both ends of each coil, ie don't expect to get a spark with only 1 plug in a pack.
Best regards

Thanks but the problems are much more basic than that.

1.) ECU Pin 37. Every time I turn on the ignition, ECU immediately turns on fuel pump however it does not turn off the fuel pump after the 2 seconds (but does when you turn off the ignition).

2.) ECU Pins 32+33, 34+35. The injector circuit all works when each injector bank is manually grounded – fuel is injected (and the engine partially fires as a result on next crank). However the ECU is not grounding these two pin pairs at all.

3.) Datalogs show I seem to have spikes in some of the sensor values. In particular the coolant, air temp and RPM readings.

I could have a ground issue so did exhaustive tests to try and identify the problem. I have removed all terminals from all sensors, and all ground connections from the engine block to find any problem. I have tried numerous permutations but even if I have just the basic ECU ground connection jumped to the battery –ve, on some cranks the coolant and / or air readings are erratic whilst some times they are constant.

Since I in effect do not have (any) sensors connected, I cannot see how spikes can happen. Could the ECU itself cause this problem?
