Assuming the warning light is working normally, it not coming on with the engine running means there isn't zero oil pressure. Which makes the gauges suspect.

I agree Dave, I'll probably need another gauge soon. However, the definitive zero reading came from my mechanic's diagnostic pressure gauge. The engine's been in need of a rebuild for a while so I've decided to go for that. I'll post the findings on here.
