well had enough today and lost it big time with the car,

it now has no ecu
its in a box in the corner of the garage,
im in the process of redoing the hotwire loom so i can either proove i have an ecu fault or the problem is to do with the cam etc.

Ian Stew what is your timing at idle mate?
i had to set mine at 28 degrees to even idle,
was ok at 10 when first built the engine a few weeks back,
could some thing of moved???
im hoping to do a bit of the loom this evening and start fitting the af meter and the loom tomorow may even get round to firing it up before my daughters birthday party at mid day
i just want to be happy that nothing has gone wrong with the engine :(

Have you contacted the dude's that built your ecu?

Without plugging the computer into the ECU I cant he;p there as mine is electricly in bits, and I dont think I have a copy on my computer either, now if I new where the floppy is that would be another story

yup
regarding the datalogs they say it looks fine and it may be down to the lumpy cam, but why did it do 30+ miles before it had this problem????

im sending it back any way for testing, and also going to retry my old hotwire setup as i know that was ok prior to removal

Ecu back with Rob,
and is under going some vigorous testing, and so far all is fine :?

any one any ideas wtf is going on with my car????
Marki and dnb both have looked at the datalogs (i think) and can explain better whats going on,

BUT it looks like the engine is going to need stripping down AGAIN this weekend to check valve springs, cam and lifters to make sure they are all ok so if any one is bored this weekend

So would i correct in saying that abovesay 1500rpn it runs fine but below that it does not want to run or idle and goes silly rich?

Whats the map/vac signal like at these revs?

Ps, get them to add some coil drivers if it doesn;t have any already!

Fuel pressure regulator? - is the vac line connected? - can you test the pressure?

We may have a result,
on the start of engine strip down we noticed that one of the new pushrods was at near full extent, the lock nut had failed and the pushrod had wound itself out thus making the preload to high on one of the cylinders,
will this of damaged the cam or lifter?

Once the ecu is back from testing i can see if we have found the fault, but its looking more promising as this will not of been helping.

If the pushrod has wound out, and kept the valve open, do a compression test, JUST in case, could be a valve interferance thing, and as lont as the engine has not done loads of miles I would not expect any damage to it, check the push rod for staraghtness

the car has only been at idle mate,
and the problem has gotten worse while only at idle.
i will do a comp test tomorrow then on that cylinder.
cheers ian.

did the comp test and cylinders 1-8 vary from 135 psi to 150 psi
so looks like no damage has been done to the valve pheeeeeeew.

have refitted 90% of the looms,
and while im refitting them im tidying every thing up where bits of electrical equipment have been added over the years the wiring looks a bit untidy, so ideal time to sort it out,
i have redone part of the efi loom so i can re-route some bits under the dash into better places, and so far it all seems to be fitting better 8)
the way its going i may be ready for a start up late friday, if not will defo be saturday,
