New PB for my TVR

Post by dbv8 »

With a second stage of nitrous adding 60 bhp on top of the progressive 125 bhp i ran a new PB of 11.726 @ 122.55 yesterday at York.

I came runner up in Street racer to Ian Kerrs 1000bhp Willys and he also beat me in the final of hotrod.

Good numbers there dude!!
Looking at the terminal speed. I reckon you may have traction issues in the first 1/8th.
What were your 60 / 330 foot times like??

Cheers Perry.
I run 255/50/16 Mickey Thompson street ETS and am down to 10 psi.
After a mild burnout im only just getting into the 1.8s for 60 foot.
York dont give a 330 foot but according to the ipod (dynolicious) i got about 5.2.
The 1/8th was in 7.69 @ 95.

I blame the IRS and the suspension but would appreciate any ideas or tips

I've just watched your video!
You need a line lock. You are not getting those tyres anywhere near warm enough. The ET streets will pay you back big style, even with a gentle burnout like this.
You could also do with a quick mod to limit front suspension rebound as I mentioned before. Your car does has a LSD doesnt it?

Was that a recent clip?
Just put some new ones on youtube last night.
Have a look under 'dbv8nos'.

I get a better burnout if i reverse into the bleaches.
Line locks on the list of jobs.

Lee at LA racing reckons the MTs dont need much of a burnout.

Can i ask what your car weighs Perry?

The Mickey T's normally need a good burnout at the start of the day. Then just quick spins ups to clean them off.

My car is about 1200 kg's.

Cheers Perry.
Im ordering an electric line lock kit from Real Steel so am looking forward to creating some proper tyre smoke at the end of the month.

On another note i remember reading you have an in car ignition retard unit. I spoke to Trevor (wizard of nos) last night and he wasnt sure the MSD retard unit would work with my ignition system and fuel injection.
The Real Steel catalogue item BY8782 claims to be 'universal'. Do you know anything about it?

Another Pb was to be had at York on 30th Aug of 11.63 @ 122.6 which is nice :D

I backed this up at Shakey last Saturday with a 11.64 @ 118 with the engine bogging with a very rich nitrous mixture over the line.

Dave!
It is Dave isnt it DBV8??

You need to get your car on a dyno now. You need to see what AFR's are like on a nitrous run. And then re jet to suit as long as you know you have good bottle pressure.

How much gas are you spraying now?

I find that running 250 of gas on a full bottle will give me good results. But when I've done 3 passes with this amount. The fourth pass will be poop as the bottle pressure drops too quickly (even with 900psi at the start) and I run rich on fuel over the line.

I tested this at the pod recently. The first 3 passes were all 10's. The bottle had 11lbs and 3 oz's in it.
The 4th and 5th passes were mid 11's and I had 900psi to start with, but after the 4th and 5th runs the bottle pressure had dropped to below 800psi and I was chugging agross the line with too much petrol.

Just something you might want to try out if you have a spare bottle??

Tom!
I've got 3 bottles mate. And another 2 for backup at the moment.
It's just a bit expensive to fill them all at once !!

Its Derek by the way.

I ran 11.6 @ 118 in the morning with the car bogging.
I then drove to a TVR meeting where they had a rolling road.
On the rollers with using the gas the car tried to climb off and was wheelspinning.
The AF dropped below 10:1 so i swapped the fuel jets and the ratio came above 13:1 and was running much better.
On returning to Shakey the next day my terminal was up over 120 but my starts werent as good so only an 11.8.
I keep my pressure up using bottle heaters and pressure switches.
I have a twin line feeding my stage 1 now which is good for 150bhp but im going to have twin 11lb bottles feeding this next time so pressure drop will be kept to a minimum.
A third bottle supplies the second stage jetted for 100 bhp (just in case)

Ive wrote a begging letter to nitron to cut their quote of £1800 for a set of shocks and springs that i can fine tune for the strip.
Why is the best always so expensive?
