On the Gt40 I use a hotwire system
The throttle cable pulls down and across the rear of the engine.
Now I had (yes past tense as it broke) the cable attached to the butterfly mechanism (Bolt with hole through and 2 nuts clamping the cable on each side)
Now over 3 years of use the cable has moved hundreds of times and the cable has finally cried enough of the continuous bending at the point of fixing and let go! (Actually got home with 3 strands still working!)
Anyhow I'll need a new cable but how to connect to the throttle / butterfly mechanism bit so that the same thing does not happen again?
Presumably a clevis pin type arrangement on the mechanism but then how to connect to the cable?
There is already a clevis pin on the foot pedal so any adjustment to overall length needs to be done at this end (final adjustment of 2.5 cm can be taken up on a bicycle brake type cable adjuster
Any ideas?

Owner of an "On the Road" GT40 Replica by DAX powered by 3.9Hotwre Efi, worked over by DJ Motors. EFi Working but still does some kangaroo at low revs (Damn the speed limits) In to paint shop 18/03/08.

You really need a 'free' pin which can rotate with the mechanism with a hole through the middle for the cable, I suppose you could double the cable back over the existing pin and clamp it to itself (what we do with crane lifting cables etc) which would be strong enough but maybe not ideal in a performance auto situation as you may get a bit of flex or stretch when the adjustment gets to an extent- if that makes sense...?!

I bought some fancy stainless braided throttle cable off a company off ebay and impressively it came with a bag full of different ends etc to use. Might be a good idea? Also the ends of the cables had proper ends crimped/cast on which you can cut off if you don't need them- but look spot on! The liner was also teflon lined and seems virtually frictionless.
Lokar do a universal throttle cable kit, maybe that would do ?

So thats where it went !
I took a single 1984 Landrover 3.5 SU and bodged that onto my hilux surf 3Y engine with some tubing. a bit of work with an angle grinder on the throttle arm from the 3Y's carb and it fitted onto the SU shaft. it's the type with a ball on the arm and a socket on the cable so they just clip together... maybe raid a junkyard for something with a suitable arm with a clip on cable end?
