Ok all, this is a stupid ?? but i want to make sure, each shaft has a notch at one end, this goes to the top and front on the right hand side of engine, the ?? is , right side from inside the car or standing in front it, The reason i ask is weve had this before with another engine some years back,and they was talking as if insde the car, :? rich

I have always remembered it this way....

The notch is at the top and goes at the right hand end of the head as you look from the exhaust face, whichever side of the engine you are working on.

Rich,

I can't now remember which way the notches go and in fact there is an error in one of the manuals.

The important thing is to make sure that the oil holes in the shafts face down towards the camshaft and that the ofsets on the rocker are are correct.

It' a fiddly job but if you lay all the parts out in the correct order it's fairly straightforward.

i was about to delete this post, L/H and R/H are from behind the engine gearbox end, R/H notch at the front (pulley end) and L/H notch at rear, thanks for the replies, simple when you know :) rich
