Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
Hi All,
I'm new to the forum, and to V8s.
I recent purchased a Land Rover Series III with a V8 conversion done by York Performance in 1991.
The engine number seems a strange format though, YPE020293, anyone know where this might be from as it doesn't align with the rover v8 engine number formats?
Cheers.

At a guess, York Performance have stamped their own number (hence YPE) over whatever was originally there. You'd have to ask them (if they still exist)SnowyOne wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 7:07 pm Hi All,

Thanks scudderfish, ah that makes sense, and unfortunately I don't think they still exist, but I'll do some digging.
Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
Is the link to the updated list on page 2 not working?
A friend has bought a trike and the engine number & compression ratio stamped on the pad by the dipstick is 26G00008B and 8.13:1, the list on page 1 goes up to 24G for 1983 on LandRover 90/110 cr 8.31:1 and starts again at 27G for 1989 Disco, manual, carb, cr 8.13:1 so does this mean the engine is somewhere between 1983 and 1989?
It's got a GM180 auto which we reckon could be from an SD1 because the engine number in the logbook (it's not the right number) points to a 1976 - 1987 SD1 block although the list also says that block's with a manual not auto gearbox.
The reason for asking is it's not running at all well because someone has filed huge great flats on the Stromberg carb needles (and these flats aren't the same on the two carbs either!) and we're trying to pin down a year so we can order the right needles.
