Hi all - the name's Andy and for the past 22 years I've owned a TVR Wedge that I call the Alternative Wedge. Alternative as in there is virtually nothing original from when the car left the factory in 1989. 90% of the work I have done myself. From an engine perspective, in 2019 I bought a 4.6 Gems unit from a breakers stripped it and sent it away to have top hat liners fitted by the excellent Richard Ward from Ward's engineering. He also reworked the heads before I rebuilt the engine and dropped it into the car.
The engine is set up as per the latter years TVR V8s using the Intermediate timing cover and is powered by a Holley Sniper 2 Efi with Hypaspark 2 ignition. I believe I was one of the first UK customers to fit the revised Sniper 2 unit and so far I've been impressed with it. I tried ACES Killshot to begin with as the build quality and setup was better than the first gen Holley Sniper but despite frequent attempts I could not get the car to idle consistently so it went back. The Sniper 2 is far superior in this respect.
This has been a slow build interupted by covid, time and money but now is nearing completion and the car will be on the road in a matter of weeks instead of months. With regards Holley Sniper 2, it's now about tuning the car by using its features with a laptop to obtain decent Timing and AFR values - something I am learning about.
As a forum there is no better place to learn and share ideas and experiences. I've dropped in out for years but not as a member. When rebuilding the 4.6 I learnt some valuable numpty-like lessons, the type one never forgets. My old 3.5 is sitting in a couple of crates - I plan to rebuild this as a winter project and see where it goes from there...
