LT77 rebuilders

Post by Stagrover »

Can anyone recommend a recently used LT77 rebuilder? There seem to be lots of historical mentions but nothing in the near past.
Rimmer Bros list them at about £1k but are out of stock - any clues as to who they use?

With Ashcroft stopping 2wd rebuilds years ago due apparently to lack of parts, is it possible to have confidence in anyone else?
Or was it really a lack of demand for 2wd compared to a very healthy, steady volume demand for 4wd boxes and transfer gears?

If I had £4K burning a hole in my pocket the simple answer would seem to be Vitesse Global and an MX5 derivative but that’s pretty rich to use in a £6k car!

Thanks for any good leads.

There's a few suggestions here:

"However, gearboxman has the parts and says he can do it, so that looks like the best"

Thanks for the links - interesting that RR echo Ashcroft regarding quality of spare parts even though you would have thought there was a reasonable cross over of parts between 2 and 4wd.
