As the screen name implies, I am an old guy from Virginia. This summer, I purchased a 1986 LR 110 V8 from the UK. Took delivery in September and have ever since been working to clean up the underside. The body had been redone by the PO’s in England. It was a barn find that had resided in the barn for 20+ years. Solid chassis, solid bulkhead ( foot wells have been redone, but other wise good and solid) and interesting back story. Originally owned by the ZSL, Zoological Society of London, (aka, the London Zoo) 91000 miles on odometer. I am the 4th owner. The zoo, a UK farmer, and the two gentlemen from England that found it and redid the body.
This is my third Rover, having had a Series 3 CSW about 20 years ago. That one now resides in Texas. Gentleman down there wanted it more than I did. Went with a V8 5 speed because the series would only do 55 mph, downhill, in overdrive, and with a tailwind. Also owned a Discovery II as a daily driver some years ago.
So, hopefully when I am finished with this one, I will be able to actually drive it places. I live in a rural area and need to be able to travel at highway speeds to get anywhere. But not too fast or too far, it is after all 38 years old and I am still sorting out things on it.
