LT77 Gearbox Whine

Post by stumer »

Hi,
I have a LT77 gearbox in my TR7 V8, which originally came from Rover SD1.
The gearbox seems fine apart from a loud whine in 5th gear. The other gears seem fine.
The ID of the gearbox is 19A 27***B B.
Presuming the noise is from a bearing. I have read that the 5th gear section of the gearbox is at one end. Can this section be taken off and overhauled while leaving the rest of the gearbox attached to the car?
Any ideas on the whine?

Any ideas on cost of overhaul of a LT77, maybe whole gearbox if required?

I'm in SE UK

Can't say for sure if the 5th gear housing can be removed without disturbing the main 'box but it is the aluminium housing on the rear which contains this so there is a good chance. This housing also contains an oil pump I believe which would also be worth checking or maintaining if that is correct I'd think.
Best of luck getting it sorted.
