Ford sbc 351w power upgrade
Hi everyone i am new to this forum so please be patient. To cut a long story short i have inherited a 56 ford f100 that i intend to have shipped over to the good old uk and it has a 351 windsor engine in it and i needs rebuilding so when i do this i would like to be getting around 350bhp from it and would appreciate any feedback on how to reach this goal and what i would have to do to the engine and a idea on what parts i would need i.e cams / pistons i.e.
Re: Ford sbc 351w power upgrade
Welcome to the forum.
The last 351w I built was 25 years ago. A lot has changed since then, but you can probably find one of the books by Des Hammill. Lots of info in those. Parts are much easier to find now, I used 302 Cleveland heads and conrods in mine with hypereutectic pistons. It had a 1.73 rod stroke ratio and performed very well. Nowadays alloy heads are the go and aftermarket rods and pistons are easy to find and cheaper than shotpeening and cryo treating factory rods.
More common now is to buy a Ford crate engine, they work out to be pretty cheap in comparison to rebuilding your own.

Looking at the Ford performance website says Real Steel or Power Torque Engineering .

A crate motor would make a lot of sense, even better a full turnkey with either carb or injection etc already set up

Can anyone tell me why ford crate engines are so much dearer than chevy ones?

Re: Ford sbc 351w power upgrade
Why are there price differences with anything ?
Re: Ford sbc 351w power upgrade
Because the US government has been subsidizing General Motors, but Ford has been keeping afloat on their own. Ford parts were always dearer, lots more chev parts and competing companies.
