3.9 efi oil leak

Post by Stuvy »

I have an oil leak and need to get some bits ordered before the shops all shut

Is there a typical area from these pictures they leak from?

At the top of the engine? Rocker covers and inlet manifold at the ends. Can be difficult to see the source due to the oil creeping.
Not convinced the rubber rocker gaskets are that long lived either.

The EFI engine is more prone to leaks if the breather is partially blocked. On an unknown engine, it's worth renewing the flame trap - the grey thing that screws into the right rocker, check the hose is clean, and the passage into the throttle body the other end of that hose goes to. The steel pipe that the hose fits onto can be removed by twisting back and forth and pulling out. That give access to the main passage into the TB. Use a suitable sized twist drill, turned by hand, to clear any muck out.

It also leaks up the thread of the bolt/stud that clamps the distributor down.
