Hi
New to the forum so hello.im looking at a v8 just now and been told it was from a Range Rover but not sure it was. The engine code is 10A20785 which I thought was from an SD1 - am I wrong?
Thanks

I have been offered a V8 (via pics only so far), numbered 38DnnnnnC. It is a 3.9, 8.13:1 CR. It has a serpentine front cover, with a dizzy visible. 14CUX loom. I think from a Disco. Looks like 10 bolt heads.
Any ideas what the C suffix means please? Is it likely to have a big journal crank - cant see if it has cross bolts. Is it likely to have a forward pointing oil filter, or sideways? Plan is to put it in a P6B, so need fwd filter.
thanks

Suffix B definitely has a crank driven oil pump and Suffix A has a dissy driven oil pump but I dont know about a suffix c - logic would indicate it is a latter 3.9 with a crank driven oil pump but I dont know.

As far as the larger diameter crank shaft - these were not fitted to the 3.9 and in LR engines were only fitted to the 4.0 and 4.6. The oil filter is likely to be angles forward but with these older engines, anything is possible.

I believe the angled oil filter was achieved by an elbow screwed to the flat face of the downward pointing front cover.
Only the front covers that were destined to have the elbow had the necessary threaded holes, so you can't fit an elbow to a non-elbow cover, but you can remove the elbow if it's present.

Rover P6B Auto. They started with an "A" suffix, then ran through "B", "C" & "D". B suffix should have a lipseal at the rear main.

Thanks for the reply. Just need to work out how much of what's bolted on is correct for the engine so I can decide if its worth using in my mgb gt. Are there any numbers to identify the heads or timing cover? Thanks again Phil

Hello guys.

I´m new here, but I really need your help.

I have a Defender 110 1994 but in bad shape, I will restore it. The previous owner loose the engine, I only know the serial number: 24G12510B

Please help me if one of you have a motor near to this serial, confirming if your serial is manually stamped or if is printed in small point.

A couple or friends has same engines (both are from 1994) sent me this:

24G12166B : manual stamp
24G15087B : machined with little dots

My engine is in the middle but is really important for me clarify the technique.

Thanks for your help. :nw

The only reference I can find to STC1600R is that it is a now obsolete number for 'ENGINE UNIT - STRIPPED', so I guess a factory exchange engine?
But that reference points to STC1102E which is:
ENGINE UNIT - STRIPPED, ENGINE CODE 35D 3.9V8 EFI H/C, MAN, EXCHANGE.
£3593.33

Thank you for your help, the guy did say it was a gold seal engine if that makes any difference. Thank you again for your help.

Hi,

Any idea where an engine number A13195 would have originated from? Currently in a MGB V8 roadster converted around 2000/01 and f itted with Vittese EFI.

Thanks

Mal
