Rover V8 clutch plate diameter

Post by dyno »

Hi,

More troubles, I was about to order a new disc for my Rover V8 engine (almost finished). I've got a complete rebuild LT77 box and seems like they use 240 mm clutch plate in the SD1 (D suffix gearbox). Unfortunately, I've just found out, my clutch and clutch cover is 266 mm. After some resource on Google it seems like it is the same diameter as a Range Rover (the clutch also has course tooth, not the fine like needed for an LT77).

Flywheel has been lightened a little and fresh rebalanced. I was hoping I could still use this flywheel but does the large 266mm clutch and clutch cover fit into the SD1 LT77 Bellhousing? Can I find a release bearing and all other parts needed to release the clutch?

regards

Dirk

I can answer this topic myself, just borrowed a spare clutch cover from a friend of mine. Th cover is much bigger and no, it will not fit the SD1 Bellhousing. It only fits the Range Rover long Bellhousing.

Sad news, this flywheel has just been weight reduced and balanced. Money spend for nothing, did not know they where different. But I did bought the flywheel on Ebay as SD1 before start machining.

Flywheel probably is SD1 item. You need to source a suitable SD1 clutch.

I have a McLeod flywheel and 10,5" clutch. It fits inside a LT77 bellhousing.

If the flywheel has the same measures, it should only be a matter of finding a small enough clutch cover.

Which make / model are you using?

Can't you get the smaller hole pattern drilled into the flywheel you have?

Isnt the RR flywheel much thicker/heavier than SD1

Some photos would be useful
