Timing chain wear

Post by demo2 »

Can anyone tell me how to correctly measure this?
I replaced gears and chain with a kent vernier setup 3000 miles back, i am now stripping the engine and there is slack in the chain and you can move the cam slightly in each direction with the slack in the chain. I know there will be a certain amount of slack but cant find any answer as to how to measure it. Anyone got any answers?

Slight...really does sound like a little though...

LS example and he says it is new. I've certainly seen used chains with this much and my own is probably the same although I have a chain "dampener" as they call it in between the two gears which sort of restricts the flopping about

Rover V8...not sure he he's saying 106 miles, or 106,000 miles
