Post by Coops »

well after a long drive to Telford today I met up with Perry and Reg from the forum at Bailey Performance for the retune and setting up of the ecu etc and the mapping for the car,
End result today with belt slip was 404 RWHP @ 12psi of boost, chuffed to buggery with that :D

Perry was doing his David Bailey bit and being a video whore lol.

I didn't get many vids as was watching and trying to learn what Dale was doing lol,
BUT Perry got loads lol,
this one was of a quick power run before a few tweaks before a proper pull,
think this was just before the 397.4 RWHP run

the standard rover set up Stevie,
under hard acceleration the tensioner is going out to full travel and the belt slips didn't realise the belt would stretch like that,
Have ordered a 10mm shorter belt to see if we can mover the tensioner further back the other way so it has more adjustment it can use under acceleration,
the belt is now a year and a half old and has had quite a hard life lol, and when it was all fitted new we saw 14psi of boost, so we know the set up works ok just think its got old, will try the shorter belt first

Once the tensioner runs out of travel you will lose almost all grip, so it does need addressed.

A blower setup will likely need a much stronger tensioner vs a normal accessory drive too

But yes, if you can get the sorted belt on that will squeeze on, preferably a Gates heavy duty/XS type belt, all the better.

And yes, it will do no harm to change it frequently, certainly more often than you would a normal drive belt.

But it's all about maintaining tension, they stretch huge amounts !

I'm sure you've seen some of these videos ? And look how beefy those tensioners are

At the end I bought something similar for my own and adapted it, and they've a pretty damn strong spring in them

In the process of sorting the cold start out and light throttle when cold,

BUT otherwise took her for a run today and HOLY f**k does that car haul ass and pulls like mad now, no more running out of steam when you hit 3rd gear now,
no dead spot no more never ever has it ever pulled like that and hit the 6500k rev limit at a snap of your fingers I like it :D
its fighting for grip all the time now on acceleration, and that's with loosing boost
will keep you posted how we get on

Be interesting to see timing compared to before....it was wayyy retarded before, so room for big improvements, which now seem to have happened
