Serpentine belt drive

Post by minorv8 »

Has anyone fitted serpentine belt system on an older Rover V8 engine, i.e. replaced the V-belt pulleys with serpentine versions ? I don´t mean swapping the timing cover and ancillaries from a serpentine engines, just the pulleys ?

This is a common swap for american engines but have not seen any kits for Rover engines.

I've never seen anything.

I think if you want a serpentine drive, people just switch to the factory timing cover.

I looked into it with my 3.5 - to help with my struggling supercharger V-belt drive, probably possible but would need some custom pulleys/spacers/brackets etc..
With a V belt drive they tend to only drive one accessory - so multiple accessories = multiple crank pulleys/belts, and all different alignment. Serpentine belt obviously drives all with one belt so all pulleys need to be aligned.
I also looked at swapping the front cover for a later serp type - BUT in the end I found a 4.6 which happened to also include the serp timing cover so it had to be done :D
