Hello from West Sussex - Land Rover Series V8

Post by MrScruffs »

Hello everyone,

I’m Neil from the South Coast. Middle-aged man with a weakness for Land Rovers.

I currently have a Land Rover series with a 3.5 V8 and a Borg Warner 65 auto box. I’m moving to a Edelbrock avs 2 carb from the old SU’s as well as doing piles of repairs and restoration on the rest of the vehicle. I’ve owned the old boy for nearly a year, and have only driven it 3 times...

I’m barely mechanically minded but can follow a good YouTube tutorial with the best of them. Looking forward to soaking up the knowledge here and hopefully asking sensible questions along the way.

Cheers!

With an only 3 speed box, you need to keep the torque curve as flat/wide as possible. And SUs are good at that.

I think the BW autobox is 1:1 top gear...?

Does it seem low geared?, i.e. revs highly when on the motorway?

Chris.

Thanks. It runs/ran fine with the BW65. The engine and gearbox is from the same donor vehicle and was done over 25 years ago.

The SUs are gone. So it’s an AVS2 going in.
