Hi everyone I’ve just got this stag with a 3.5 rover engine fitted with a Holley carb,it’s been off the road since 1996 I have had it running but the clutch is stuck so I am going to have to take out the engine to free it but while it out I was thinking off putting a 3.9 back in ,what I want to know is are the engines the same meaning will it go straight in and will my Holley carb still fit thanks for any advice Tony

Greetings and welcome to the forum.

The answers to your questions are yes and yes.

Before looking for a 3.9 there are a few cheap upgrades that will put your 3.5 into 3.9 territory in terms of power.

I'm sure one of the members will be more than happy to advise.

Is the rest of the drive train up to handling the extra torque of a 3.9? Mate had a Stag where the diff blew up with the standard engine.

In other words, might be better to increase the BHP of the 3.5 if you want more grunt - and in keeping with the sporty(ish) nature of the Stag.

BTW, few aftermarket carbs are 100% perfect tune wise. And changing the engine size will require it done again, to some extent.
