Hello all,
I am an old spanner monkey but still breathing.
I am putting together a Cobra replica. I have refurbished a V8 4.6 Thor engine and connected it to an R380 gearbox.
Great fun - so far

What are your plans for the fuel injection ECU? I have plans for a 4.6 Thor connected to a manual box in a Land Rover.

Chris.

ECU choice

Hi Chris,

I am having great difficulty deciding.
Omex would be the popular choice, but it is so expensive!
It is also capable of delivering more than I really need (performance wise).
I have found Emerald. they will install a get you going set up. ie you do not have to have them install it. They are also cheaper, much cheaper.
They also give access to the software.

So - not much help to you there. I am sorry.
Do you have any ideas?

Steve

MegaSquirt is by far and away the best value. And has the best support for DIY.

If you intend getting someone to fit and tune an aftermarket set up for you, the important bit is to find a decent installer, rather than go by make, as there really isn't a vast difference between them all. In other words, a badly installed and tuned Omex would be simply dreadful, same as any.

However, if your engine is standard, the Thor Bosch system is as good as any. Just down to the cost of having it modified to work stand alone.

I am going to stay with the Bosch Motronic, but made 'standalone' by Mark Adams of Tornado Systems. Will save a ton of faffing around trying to get it to run to it's best.
