RV8 4.0L engine conversion

Post by cncman »

Hi i`m new to the site, maybe someone can offer some advice for the RV8. 4.0L (no distributor) conversion i want to do.
I want to convert my RV8 to run on an Edlebrock performer inlet manifold and 500 cfm carb for use in a Westfield Seight i have just about finished. I love the sound of carbs over injection.
So no ECU/injection system just carb, how will i sort the ignition out?
If anyone can advise me i would be greatful.
Thanks

One option is to fit a distributor - that means you will need a different front cover - either an intermediate cover to retain the crank-driven oil pump or an SD1/P6 cover (which then means adding a gear to the cam to drive the oil pump + different pulleys etc)

Another option is to use an aftermarket system to run coil packs and retain your current front cover/pulleys etc

God that was quick, i would like to stay with the crank driven oil pump. I have been looking at the coil packs at http://trigger-wheels.com
They advertise they have kits for the RV8. I am mainly a mechanical person, a bit unsure on the wiring but i expect they giv a clear diagram.
I`ll give them a ring Tues 26/05.
Thanks, it`s good to talk with someone who knows.
Best wishes

Basically you need EDIS-8 + Trigger-wheels + MegaJolt-Lite Junior.

EDIS-8 is a box from Ford that takes an input from a trigger-wheel and drives enough coil packs for 8 cylinders. However by itself it only does static timing. So you add MegaJolt Lite from autosportlabs which makes the timing mappable.

Have a read of the Autosport Labs website, it's very informative.

I've done it to my 4.6 with the non-distributor timing cover & carbs, and it works great!
