Replacing a Rover V8 with an LS1
My MGB GT is currently prepared to take a Rover V8 mated to a powerglide.
Since the position of the gearbox dictates the position for the engine, I have a few questions.
If I wanted to replace the Rover V8 with an LS1, are the engine mounts in a similar position or would something have to be fabricated up?
Does anyone have any pictures of their own projects where they went down this route?
I just want to see how involved the conversion is to be honest.

There are loads of LS1 websites which detail features such as engine mounts.
I'm waiting on delivery of a complete LS1 package from the states (was meant to be here in November, but it will now be January ).
From what I can tell, the dimensions (in inches) of the engine are as follows:
W - 24.75
H - 28.25
L - 28.75
However, there is a load of accessories tagged on to the front of the engine (including water pipes) which may compromise my transplant (replacing a Ford 351 C).
I'm just hoping it will all fit, otherwise it will all be up for grabs and I'll have to re think my powerplant

Just get the engine from a Camaro.
It will fit nicely...stick and all.
I had a Rover V8 with LT77 in my Granada. This required the shifter hole cut rearwards slightly over the Ford position.
I then fitted a Supra box...which was almost back to Fords position.
With my LS1/T56....I needed to trim the auto hole in my tunnel slightly rearwards ( this car never had an LT77 so wasnt trimmed for the Supra box )
So with a Camaro LS1/T56, I doubt your stick position will change much.
If yo get what appears to be a more common powerplant for a conversion, the GTO/Monaro.....its stick sits some 4" further back over the Camaro.
Looking at Robert's pics ages ago when he fitted the LS1 to his Capri...I'd say 98/99 RHS exhaust manifold will bolt straight in. ( think steering )
Later manifolds wont be as friendly.
Engine mounts will defo need fabricated, but will fall in similar areas on the block.
I havent updated this in ages, but this was my LS1 fitment to my Granada. http://gallery112848.fotopic.net/c332887.html
I'd think a lot of what applies to mine, would apply to a Capri.

That was my thought, but the engine has to go between strut towers on my chassis, and there appears to be a fair bit of width low down on the front of the LS1. I should be able to relocate some though, but without having an engine in front of me it is difficult to get an impression from pics. LS1 engine is 1 inch smaller all round, but wider low down at front.katanaman wrote:I would have thought an LS1 would easy go where a 351c has been. Its a lot smaller and has to be half the weight. A 351c is a big heavy old engine.
Here's some pics of chassis with 351C and how it is now.
