Small block Dodge v8 into Omega?

Post by v8mick »

Was contemplating putting the engine into an Rx8 mazda, but I thought that the Omega is more plentiful, more roomy, and looks good lowered and bodykitted, as well as beng cheaper to buy a runner. But having read some stories about steering box being in the way, Im not quite so sure?? The dodge engine seems to be physically smaller than the rover v8 and the chev.

Is this an awkward one? No replies or comments?

There was a guy who put a sbf in a carlton iirc due to the front sump and steering box. Plus there's a senator with an ls3 on youtube. Not sure what the sump options are for a mopar, is it old school small block or magnum?

Hi
the carlton floor-pan and engine bay has had a V8 in it from the factory so you have an advantage, in that you know it will fit (Australian/SA cars). However with any conversion you will have issues, you highlight the steering box issue, relocating a steering box is generally simpler than a rack as you can often still use the stock drag links and cross links. I think you will probably find that you may have to adjust your transmission tunnel unless you use a powerglide/ th350 or similar box from dodge.
good luck it sounds an interesting project and it makes a great change from another rover!
best regards
