LT77 serial numbers and ident

Post by Old Knocker »

Can anyone there help with identifying 2 LT77 gearboxes i have. I've read some previous stuff from Bodger et al and the list of serial numbers but neither of mine seem to fall into that list. They were both fitted with SD1 bell housings when i got them, so i'm assuming they are SD1 'boxes.
One has the serial number beginning 17A and ends with B (underneath the box) and the other 34A and ends with G (on the side plate by the drain plug). I know the 17A is a 5 speed as i've already stripped and checked it, but don't know about the other yet. Also i have a 5 speed TR7 that i'm going to drop a 3.9 Rover v8 into, does anybody have useful advice about this swap. Ta very much.

Not much of a technical guru, but after having bought an LT77 I do have list of pages I went through when buying it. Some identification help can be had here: http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk ... oductId=78
