New PB for the MGB at the Pod today.

Not a huge improvement. But still a bit closer to that 9.5 ticket I'm looking for.

First run off the trailer was a 9.62 second pass. I couldnt do another pass because the seal on my fuel tank lid has failed and it slopped about a cup full of petrol into the boot when I launched :(

Unable to repair on site so that was it for today. Still a bloody good result I think. Got the 60 foot down to 1.39 seconds as well :)

Slo mo here and a real time vid to follow in a day or two when my mate gets back home to download it.

I think it was down to me adjusting the nitrous contoller :)

I'm running a 175 shot. I had the controller set to 60% start power with the rest of the gas coming in over 0.9 of a second. today I dropped the start power to 55% and also dropped the build time to 0.7 of a second to get me off the line quicker. 60 foot time came down from 1.48 seconds to 1.39 seconds :) I'm a bit miffed that I couldnt do any more runs. But a PB is a PB eh ??

My main problem now is getting the fuel leak sorted before the next day out on 28th Sept as I have to work all next weekend. If I cant get it sorted I'll not bother running the car.

Nice work Perry, is the cap not an easy fix ? how long before you need a chute on the car ?

Fuel leak was sorted with no probs.

I dont need a Chute until I hit 149-150mph. So no worries there mate ;)

Best speed was 139mph with a 10 second pass. I'm thinking that I could go sub 9.5 and still not go much above 140mph next year ?
I think my improvements will all be in the first 1/8th mile to get my new PB for next season?

Chances are Trap speed will drop slightly as your ET drops. Especially if that ET is better'd via more grip etc at the start of the track.

Basically you have less time to achieve any terminal speed.

Unless you see a hike in power, trap speeds just wont rise by any real amount.

Thats exactly my train of thought Stevie. I'm not bothered about terminal speed as long as the ET drops. I'm hoping to hit 1.2 second 60 foots next year ?

1.39 into the 1.2x is a big step for sure.

I'm hoping wheelie bars and a transbrake will do it mate?? Or maybe not. But unless I try I wont know eh :)

I guess that if you arent pulling excessive wheelie's, then there is always room for a harder launch.

And likewise, if you are launching and wheelspin isnt a major problem....there must be room for more too ?

But actually putting any theories into practise and making it happen...is another matter.

I'm looking forward to trying it all out next year mate.

It will be like learning to drive the car all over again :)

The short window I had this year to run the new build was fantastic with all the 9's. But I feel like it all happened too quick and didnt last long enough before the track closed. I seemedd to get better by a good margin from the off. Amd then got better each time I ran while I was learning how to drive it. Then the season was over before I got it dialled in for max performance on the curerent setup. And next year I will be starting as I left off with wanting to dial the engine in, but I will have wheelie bars and a transbrake to learn about as well.

I know it's money...

But anything that can give you data as to what's happening is always very valuable.

Whether engine data logs, or actual vehicle ( ie GPS or accelerometer data, wheel speeds etc )

Something like Race technology's DL1 logger might be useful ?

Would allow you to correlate launch techniques with actual runs, to see what is working best, and then maybe be more consistent in repeating it ?

Or just go and enjoy it all without spending too much or thinking about it too much lol

Whilst I never got to use them at a drag strip. Of all the tyres Ive tried on airfields, the Hoosier drag radials worked the best for me.

Will maybe get back to the Pod someday to try them there.

Funny you should say that Stevie.
I've just priced up a pair of Hoosiers as I've seen them in use on my mates F150 truck and they do hook up very well. Even on damp days !


I can log AFR on each bank + rpm and boost which gives me basic data on fuelling. I do have an inlet temp sensor to chuck onto the logger when I get a minute to fit it.

I know the engine is running rich and the ign is running quite retarded which is what I was tinkering with as the season ended.

For the strip, the QTP's might be the ones to have.

A friend ran some of these on his Subaru recently ( although they were some 6+ years old ! lol bought but never used )
He was able to hit 1.48 60ft on asphalt, so worked fairly good.

But one thing I notice about those wrinkles, and MT wrinkles. They never really seem to pick up stones.

Both the MT DR's and Hoosier DR's get loaded up with stones very easily. If nothing else, that tells me they are far far softer. At least before any burnout.
But then most DR's dont need much of a burnout.

Just a pity tyres are so damn expensive !
