I'd like a locker!!!

Progress on the Mav this weekend- in the form of destruction! Picked it up from the shot blasters and got it back on the spit, it's about what I expected- loads of porous and patched up areas, lots of work! The steel is up to 3 layers thick in places where it has been patched up again and again, so I've started chopping it out 1 section at a time, will get it level on the floor and weld new panels in which I'm going to make as it's too much hastle trying to get replacement ones. Still looking foreward to it though!

I asked the blasters not to do the roof, rear quarters or door shuts etc as there are original manufacture plates/stickers etc I want to keep- and didnt want to risk the roof warping with the blasting.






Oh- and picked up another mini for another project!!!


Also I made up a big trolley type thing for putting cars on, 8" ball bearing castor wheels make it easy to push around, is height adjustable too:


And knocked up a couple of fold out stands to make it easier to work on and paint all the panels, doors etc

Youve been busy. Maverick doesnt seem to bad, and the mini looks ok aswell . All ive done is very little to the escort rich

looks like the rear front arch corner has had some patch work, i guess the other side was the same as you have cut it out

Yep even though rusty in patches the mini is a good shell- funny how we class a rusty old thing as "good" even by todays standards eh?!

Rich yep it's my cousins mk1 capri, and yeah parts of the Maverick look like a patchwork quilt!

I've got a swager now so going to make up my own replacement panels.

Not much progress report, but I took some pics of the rather rotten bits I have got to deal with unfortunately there is quite a lot...

If it was a more common car it would be about a 3' cube sitting in a scrapyard now, at least I have something (else) to keep me busy...

Can't avoid the fact I need to get replacement panels shipped over from the states now so I may as well have a tidy up and start on the mini! No V8 I'm afraid though guys, though I do have that monster blower I bought a while ago....

You are one brave man taking that on! I think you are going to have to build a jig to keep everything aligned while you cut out panels. I would at least set up a datum on the floor of your work space and measure key points (suspension mountings, door openings etc) before you go too far so you don't end up building a bannana!

Mike, I hadn't forgotten your pointer- the 2 front floor pans are the biggest bits by far I have and will cut, once I have done some more chopping out of odd bits and pieces I will be putting it down on the big trolley I made, squaring it all up level and supporting the ends etc before doing any welding. Having it on the jig is just so handy for getting round it inside and out with the grinder/plasma etc!

A bit of inspiration for you to get the juices flowing......

Hi guys, disappointingly I think I'm going to have to let this one go, I haven't touched in for about 2 years and still have the mini and relic to finish, which isn't 5 mins!

If anyone knows someone brave enough to take on the Maverick, please put them in touch, i'd love to finish it and get it on the road but there is so much to do I don't know if it will ever happen!
