Opel Manta V8 Project

Post by stagcar »

Hi all

Thought it was about time i started a build thred on here so you can see what i have been doing!

So far most of the work done has been pre MOT stuff like brakes and a bit of welding here and there

At the moment i am still sorting the core plugs out this is not a big job but its taking ages just becuse the kids and the wife tend to need all my time however i hope to get this sorted this weekend.

Any way here is a few pictures of whats been done so far (most of this was done before i got the car) and some of you may well have seen this build on retro rides. The last owner had it up on a few sites in fact some of these pictures are his 2...

:D

Ya got to love it!

Plan is to get some mot on it run it for a year with the p6 engine then swap the engine for the supercharged one that i am building and at the same time repaint from ground up.

More soon
Cheers
Derek :) :D

Hi Derek
That is coming along nicely there for you.
When you are under the car again with your camera could you take some shots of the axle set up please with trailing arms etc shown.
I am going to nail in an mustang 8 inch later on in the year and could do with some pointers regarding this kind of job.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Paul

Haha when I was 4!!! Feel any older yet Rich?

Paul- do you have your axle yet? Only as I'm not sure if I might get rid of my 8 out of the maverick and put a 9 in.

Like the rims Derek

thanks for the good words chaps

Paul you had a v8 manta? Have you got any pictures mate? always good to see them.

As you all know i am sure the biggest problem with mantas is rust in fact even the air in the tyre's goes rusty but to be fair this one isent that bad. the other one i have got is a total rot box.

I will try and get a few pictures of the rear end setup tonight. I am sure to be out there hitting core plugs and cutting my hands on bits of rusty mettle you no the deal.

Hi Tom,Derek,Rich
I already have an 8 inch out of a Mustang plus a Richmond 3.55.1 CWP and Ratech rebuild kit sat in the workshop.
Just going to get some miles under the tyres this year and then look at swapping out the LSD thats in there already and putting that into Mrs Gelmonkeys wagon and then doing the 8" over next winter.
Just need to get a locker for it.
As an aside I've been building and rebuilding my car for 25yrs now so how old does that make me  (Yeah I know ,just an old fart)
Thank you for the offer anyway Tom.
24 now? OH to be so young :(

Derek,my car pics are in the Your Cars section of the forum under My Baby.
Hope you like them.

Have had confirmation tonight that we are going for the MOT next Saturday morning. :D :D
Look out Snot Hatches here comes trouble

Cheers

Hi Derek
Thank you for your kind words about my car :D
I have been anal about keeping the engine bay as tidy as possible because thats the way I like em,no fuss no clutter.

I just love that con rod idea.
It's a shame that people with much younger eyes and fresher brains than ours don't come up with ideas like that.
Not that I'm saying that you are old you understand
Keep going with your car and it will turn out just fine I'm sure.
Regards
Paul

Thanks for the positive feedback on the Con Rod idea

Go the car up and running today without dumping its fluids every where and i have managed to drive it out the garage.

Its given the build a good boost :nutz :nutz :nutz

Just need to get it out again and tune the carb up a bit.

Its sounds very quiet tho so will need the stupid great exhaust boxes cutting out and some nice chery bombs fitting :D

Thanks For all the help so far

Derek
