Hi Rich
with the 302 I am not sure the extra displacment is worth it if your crank is good. It seems from the articles in the magazines in the US to be an easy lump to get 400bhp out of (cam, heads, inlet and headers) even if it is not a roller cam block it can be upgraded dead easy. Much lighter than the chevy too. Best of luck with it. :D

The 302 blocks are far better than the 5.0, in an effort to save more weight in thinwall engine, the later block, metal was reduced in the area of the lifter valley, and its not uncommon for the block to split there, Ive seen 2 and heard of a couple more splitting when used with gas,

when i found out about doing to a 347, they sais that was ok it wasnt until i mentioned putting gas with they said i would need a dart block then, so im going with edelbrock rpm heads, edelbrock air-gap inlet and forged crank, probe forged pistons ,h-beam rods and 750 carb, not sure about the cam yet, and can use 150 to 200 of gas, so should abit of fun, :D rich

That should pull the skin off the proverbial custard! :D
I'll try and find a link to a magazine build up of a 302 I have in a magazine at home, big power off a simple spec as you have.
Best regards

The final word in going faster is TRACTION, as that chinese gentelman confusion  said, No traction, no go fast  ,
Have a word with Jay, in his yellow Porsche, he has traction problems, fook knows how much HP he has, easy 600 I would think, may even be 700, I was Night racing up the Pod on Saturday with him, He spent more time on the revlimiter spitting out HUGE flames out of the exhaust, and struggling to run decent 12s, its probably a low 10 car if not a 9 sec car as the engine is similar spec to Stevieturbos Granada, then he has the gas if thats not quick enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
