What bits might you get rid of ?
My axle survived and my engine was turbocharged. It didn't do many miles though, sunshine car :) That said it would break traction before I broke anything. I pegged the tubes to the diff housing which may have helped. I used an lt77 built by Ken Tomlinson (he built the axle to) and it survived. Now I'm building again intending to use a TH400 and an 8.8". The axle is about 2" wider then the tr7 axle and the one I bought has rear discs and wheel sensors. Supra 5 speed is strong and comes in several versions or the TKO 600 would do. Guess cost comes into the equation. Or you could use a TH350 with manual shift. That would be cool, strong and you could play with it. I'm planning to sell my axle and it's fitting linkage.

That's really interesting Boosted??

A Salisbury with a better ratio than mine. How does one come across a TR7 axle like this?? How much will yours be when it goes on sale?? Is the TR7 axle much different in width to the MGB Salisbury??
We need to talk I think.

Tricky.
My axle is the MGB V8 Salisbury with 3.07:1 ratio. I'm using a TH350 3 speed with a ratchet shifter. Mine is putting a chunk over 400 ft/lbs and the box has been mint for the last few years. And so has the old axle. But my engine is not built to rev like yours. My max rpm is 6000 and up there its doing nowt. All my torque is down in the 4000-5000 rpm area. And I'm crossing the line at just over 5000 rpm.

The Salisbury axle is a very strong unit isnt it. Well underestimated by many folk.

I'd need to show you some pictures of the conversion. The car did about 3000 miles tops. The diff was a new 2.84 from a vitesse and the lsd was a new quaiffe item. Then there was a lot of work making the jigs to enable the 'A' frame to be made correctly. Then another jig was made to enable correct mounting points in the chassis to locate the trailing links. these have sphericals at one end and nylon top hats at the other end. The axle is done for coilovers. There's also a very substantial plate under the diff housing to reinforce it as this is where the 'A' frame attaches. It has a spherical bearing here to allow for body roll etc.

The idea's been covered in the Punn book, How to make your car handle. Well worth a read.
