I'm using a T5 box with Quaife internals built by 'Gearboxman', just out of interest what sort of BHP/Torque can the RX8 box take I wonder?

Part of the idea is cost.

Even searching ebay today...average cost of an 6sp RX8 gearbox seems to be around £150

5 speeds are even cheaper

being Japanese, most boxes tend to be fairly good.

Paid £75 for it ( 6speed rx8) at Smitties, Bloxham, paid a tenner for the carbonfibre driveshaft. A few months back.
Had to dismantle it from the donorcar myself but got help from them.
Loaded it in the trunk of my Capri and brought it back to Holland....

There's a whole story about these boxes and adapterplates on here http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread. ... 61fa77bbb0

hey guy's, looks like this is a go-er. I've had one buyer on ebay for the plate already.
hopefully should have my adapter by end november.
the guy doing the work has been producing the ford plates for a couple of years.
I scored a six speed, with slave, prop and lever for £120 all in.
apparantly the five speed is stronger , oh and cheaper. but i wanted the overdrive 6th gear for cruising.

any one interested let me know as more people on board the better.
many thanks
Andy.

.
5th on the six speed is prise direct like the 4 on the five speed boxes.
The six speed has a very low 1st gear so with a short diff most drive away in second gear.

Didn't try the box yet myself as I am not sure which one to put it on...

Looking at grabbing a 5 speeder to replace my type 9 that's on the back of my rv8. Only problem is the bellhousing is part of the front Input shaft bearing carrier.
But a company Called , www.vitesse-ltd.com overcome this my machine up a small end cap to hold the bearings in, which then frees you up to use another bellhousing.
Iam pretty sure it would be easy to get one machined locally, and not pay £2250!!! For the kit.
You can see it on their website,2 overlapping circles.
I can then use my auto bellhousing and large thick 'washer' to bolt it all together.
The box complete is the exact same length as a type 9 complete and th same size prop splines, so if your lucky no need to change the prop also.

These boxes will be the new type 9 for sure ( defo in the kit car world) and look how much a shed, barn find heap of type9 box is nowadays!

Found this guy recently in the US who makes a lot of bellhousings.

Maybe he might have something for the old Rover V8
