The end of our cars?

Post by richardpope50 »

It seems that as part of a drive to update vehicle regulations, the DfT are proposing making it illegal to modify a vehicle (they call it tampering).
Quote: "We will create new offences for tampering with a system, part or component of a vehicle intended or adapted to be used on a road."
https://www.gov.uk/government/consultat ... #questions
Whether this is intended only to apply to future vehicles or will be a blanket restriction is not made clear. Neither is the scope of the ban spelled out but the wording appears to cover any changes from original spec, even cosmetic ones.
There is a survey for comment on the proposals, which must be done by Nov22nd:

Mate in the US (CA) has an SD1. The federal version of that uses a version of the Lucas 4CU injection - which is getting very long in the tooth, and some new spares difficult. Their 'MOT' is very hot on any mods. So I built an MS2 into the 4CU case for him. And managed to make it pretty well P&P, with the only obvious mod being the engine vacuum feed to MS - which would take a pretty knowledgable mechanic to spot.

It was tuned remotely by a UK tuner, and owner says it runs better than new. And had no problems passing their emissions tests.

Already every day, there are dangerous modifications carried out and not a word said.

ie. garages fit cheap crap parts, cheap Chinese tyres, the list goes on. All substandard, but "standard" replacement parts yet nothing is done about this.

Even tyres, they have these ridiculous EU labels for wet, noise etc....yet they are utterly meaningless as some even with good ratings, are genuinely dangerous in their performance. So how the hell are they actually tested ? That is a bigger scandal and danger than the so called VW emissions one which was utter nonsense

The world is going to turn into an even more horrible place, all this climate bullshit has brainwashed millions into so many ridiculous things. It seems they just want a planet infested with humans, nothing else, no cars, no transport, just houses and people. When will they realise that if people do want to continue on the planet....they might actually want to enjoy life while they are there.
Not just work to pay for houses, and have nothing else in life but work, debt and houses. They all cry " we need more houses"...no, we need less people.
They'll destroy motorsport, air travel, and likely most all other sport...sure that football pitch could be a block of flats, that golf course, hell, anywhere green, open space or fun !

Even more so when as the population epidemic gets worse....we kill off all other living things and anything enjoyable. It will be worse than communism.

People of our generation will have enjoyed more luxuries and fun than any of the more distant past, and future going forward. Some of the brainwashed kids might shout about running their childhoods, their futures. It is those very children who will be their own destruction ( and that of all other life ).....and they cannot even see it.

The human population has quintupled ( is that a word ? ) in around 100 years....that IS destruction. All at the expense of all other life. Rising over 50% year on year for the last 10 years alone. And they wonder why there are problems, why there is a so called lack of water, resources, children starving everywhere...the list goes on. All the same common denominator

We may just enjoy our cars and lives for what we have left, the future with all this government bullshit and control will not be a nice one, and so scary that so many are naively going along with it.

These morons in charge need to fix the actual problem, and stop worrying about a very small handful of people who want to enjoy their cars.

Well said Stevie

Back in 1980 Rhodesia became Zimbabwe. Population was around 6.5m after independence an influx occurred, since then no infrastructure improvements worth talking about,
Population now a whisker under 15m
In that time Mugabe and his cronies raped and pillaged and then threw all the commercial farmers off the land, what used to be the bread basket of Africa is now a basket case. and wherever possible they try to relocate to U.K. and Europe.

Get the population expansion under control and most things will be much improved

Thanks for sharing Richard,

I noted the comment below which I suppose may be a 'get out of jail' point for us 'enthusiasts!

I also noticed lots of mentions in regards to "automated vehicles" which to me seems like they are trying to put in place law which enables/short cuts the red tape to be able to drive/test autonomous cars on the roads!

We would like to emphasise that our policy intention is to prevent modifications that have a negative impact on road safety, vehicle security and the environment.

We do not intend our proposals to:
prevent legitimate motorsport activities
prevent restoration, repairs or legitimate improvements to vehicles, such as classic cars or motorbikes
negatively impact businesses involved in these activities

The problem is not the intent of the new law(s). It is how they are interpreted afterwards by judges that is important, and it might not be the same interpretation as was intended!

Very true, and that's without the law twisting and manipulating it to target cars in general.

All those who are very anti-car etc....they should be forced to life their lives unable to avail of anything that is supplied by motor vehicle transport. From food on their table, clothes, everything.

Eventually it will sell. It's just the way of the world.

Houses, houses, more and more shitty houses. The world will be a much much shittier place for it too, I'm glad I will not be around in another 100 years.
