advice for a novice!

on a very strict budget i've shoehorned a bog standard sd1v8 and lt77 in my mk1 escort. i was wondering if it is possible to fit nos on this engine? and if so what system is recommended? (it still has its su's)

It's very possible, and straightforward.

Even on a completely standard SD1 motor you can add 75-100bhp without any mods at all, and 100-150 just retarding the ignition a little and changing the plugs.

There's only one sensible choice for which kit, and that's a Highpower (Wizards of Nos) kit from Trevor Langfield's company in Doncaster. A little more expensive than most of the American junk, but worth every penny for peace of mind and the softer hit it gives your drive train and motor.

You'll need a very basic kit with two injectors, one feeding into the inlet trunk just before each carb.

Other than that, if budget is tight, look out for used kit on ebay but be careful of anything that isn't WON.

thanx for the advice se5000, have looked at the page and it looks good and prospect of an extra 100bhp sounds excellent! i'll give those guys a call!

As 5000 says. WON is the way forward for using Nitrous on your RV8.

I'm selling my Holley twin plate, twin stage system on ebay soon. It worked ok, but I got more performance from my engine using a 100 shot on Trevs system than I did with a 150 shot on the old Holley plate systems.

My old standard 3500 would run a 150 shot on Trevs system all day long to bring in 12.4 second passes. I used a 50 + 100 two stage system o the Holley setup that only got me 12.8 seconds.

I'm now running a gentle 100 shot on the 4.6 with a mini max controller while I run it in and its already given me a 12 seconds dead.

I do use a Weber 500 carb mind. Your SU's may need adaptor plates from minispeed as I know they do these plates for nos injectors.

If you have the money and the space I would recommend changing the SU's for a Weber and manifold so you can fit one of Trevs custom, quad crossifre injector plates. I'll be upgrading to a Spider plate soon so I'll have a quad crossfire plate to sell in the new year.

Spacers aren't esential for an SU fit though - you could always tap a couple of crossfires into the elbows just before the carbs - still plenty close enough to avoid separation on a 100 shot.

pent manifold? i'm not sure, its the original intake manifold but due to lack of space i have used an old design set of mg block hugger outlet manifolds, will this be a problem do you think?

The pent manifold is the one where the carbs are mounted either side. One over each rocker cover as you look from the front.
